Image for my new business card

With the moose on a sabbatical and me needing some new business cards, I've decided to change the image I'm using to something new.  I've narrowed it down to these 4 images, but I'm undecided which to go with.

The card needs to instantly engage people so people ask about the photo at a networking meeting etc.

Alternatively the fifth option is to use the moose photo again....

Decisions decisions.

Photographing Will & Kate at Westminster Abbey

While I was in London last week I happened across Will & Kate at Westminster Abbey.  It would have been rude not to have taken a photo (through the window of the Abbey gift shop), so here it is.  I saw them a few other times around town that day as well....  :-)

The final photo here shows the temporary studios and photography vantage that have been built onto the outside of the church opposite the Abbey.

So to celebrate the event, I'm offering 15% off any full priced photo shoot booked (with a deposit) over this long weekend (up to 23:59 on Monday evening).

Cuppa tea?

My branded mug arrived in the post today.  Just a one off for a bit of fun marketing.

Put the kettle on, I'm on my way!

New stickers!

My shiny new stickers from Diginate arrived this morning.

They're looking great on a couple of my lens.

I don't do 360 degree imagery, but if I did...

... but if I did, it would look something like this.

This is from when I had my tour of the Apache Helicopters a few years ago.

Personalised camera straps

There's a company called Highkey that makes bespoke camera straps.  I'm currently trying to design myself a new strap.  The above is what I've come up with so far...

Update: If you order your own straps with Highkey, please mention me in the notes section of the order.  Their affiliate scheme isn't yet open to anyone living outside of the USA, but mentioning me should earn me a buck or two.  Thanks everso!

Skip's Playtime

It was the perfect spring evening yesterday so I thought I'd video a little bit of Skip, my dog (the border collie) running around playing with his friends.  Not at all meant to be taken seriously.  I was filming it with my Dad in mind, he's been too ill to get out and about much for the last 5 months so hasn't been able to see Skip at play.

Facebook Business Page

I've yet to be totally convinced as to why having a Facebook business page is even useful. I get much more "likes" and comments on my personal page.

Regardless I'm trying to make my business page - Michael Palmer Photography - a bit more interesting.  I added this as a welcome page earlier.

When owls attack

A behind the scenes shot from a shoot I was doing yesterday with falcons, hawks and owls.  I rather like it.

Proper photos and to find out why I was photographing these amazing birds coming soon.

Chinese New Year Celebrations in Southampton

I arrive at Southampton's Guildhall Square as everything was finishing, and just before the march through town. That'll teach me to find out what times things are running.

I'm not particularly happy with the photos I got, but considering I arrived late, the wind was blowing a gale and the lighting was "kinda meh" at best, they're not so bad.

Anyways, enjoy, or not.  :-)

Happy New Year!

Happy Xmas!

I don't really "do" Xmas, but it's all but impossible to escape.  So whatever your religion and beliefs, hope you have a good day tomorrow!

Just to prove I can smile...

Miniature Las Vegas

While I was in Las Vegas a few weeks ago I took a bit of time out to film some scenes with my Canon S95 camera.   It's got this fun miniature / tilt shift feature that blurs the top and bottom of the image while speeding up the picture either 10 or 20 times (in this short film).

I enjoy doing the filming, but hate editing video, so this is basically just drag/dropped out of the camera with a couple of titles and some music added.

The Fremont Street Experience in Las Vegas

The last time I visited Fremont Street in Las Vegas the lights of all the casinos there went dark every 20 minutes or so, and the street canopy light show would begin. Now its all changed. The light show runs all of the time, the casino lights don't go dark, and there is lots more to see there. Live music is on every corner, and there showgirls, Elvii (apparently that is the plural for Elvis), and much more.

The Las Vegas Strip in 83 seconds

Just a bit of fun.  I was bored one evening in Vegas so I stuck my camera to the dashboard and drove down the strip.

Filmed with a Canon S95.

Transformers 3 filming on the streets of Washington DC

While I was taking photos of the Lincoln Memorial last week in Washington DC they were setting up lights for what looked like a movie.  I asked and found out they were filming Transformers 3 there tomorrow evening.

Later that evening while trying to park near to Capitol Hill we found our way blocked by a movie being filmed.  Yep, it was Transformers 3.  We stood for a while with the 100's of other people watching, before getting bored going back to photographing Abe Lincoln.

The light you can see peaking over the trees to the left of the Washington Memorial is actually from the set of Transformers 3.

Photographing the Abe Lincoln Memorial

For a big lump of stone the Lincoln Memorial has so much character.  Every time I visit Washington DC I normally end up spending some time photographing it.

My previous visits have been in the middle of winter, and the last time I was there was just after a snow storm in Washington, early one morning, and I was the only person there.  This time, on a warm autumn afternoon there were hundreds of people around, so getting a decent shot of the whole statue without people was impossible.

These are a few of my favourite photos.

Cheers Abe!  Until next time.

Olympia 2010 Expo opens

Just a little bit of fun.  I filmed the first three minutes of Saturdays Olympia 2010 Expo as it opened its doors.  Here, sped up 10 times, and miniaturised, is the video.

Tech information: Filmed with a Canon S95 camera.

Wet wipes are the answer

To a question like "how do I clean the mess that is above off my camera?"

This is what happens when you leave your camera in the open boot of a car, while shooting in very strong winds at dusty dry lake.   I was shooting Dan Hill, Veronica Yoo and Visnja Luetic at the dry lake just outside Jean some 25 minutes down the I-15 from Las Vegas.  I was shooting with my other body, and had left my camera in the back of the car.  I came back to it 20 minutes later to this.  Eeek!  I didn't even try and clean it at the time, instead I bought a pack of wet wipes and carefully cleaned it back at the hotel.  So far, somewhat surprisingly given the mess, it's still working perfect!  I guess Canon 40D's are more dust proof than I thought.

My little black book goes to Toronto

I may have not made it to this years WBFF fitness extravaganza this year, but my Little Black Book made it across the pond in the hands of London based fitness model Alexandra Wilson.

Thanks Alex! :)

If you've purchased my book, please send me a photo with it, and I'll feature it on my blog!
